Notes
- GRAPEFRUIT contains: Bioflavonoids, which are phytochemicals found naturally in plants. Research has shown that bioflavonoids protect cells from DNA damage and: inhibit enzymes that produce cancer, protect the liver, detoxify harmful estrogen, and increase immunity. This information can be found in the wonderful book Total Breast Health, by Robin Keuneke.
- Rutin: Rutin is a component of the bioflavonoid in grapefruit that has been proven to strengthen capillaries, so to avoid or repair broken capillaries on your face, eat lots of grapefruit. It can be found in the white pith attached to the peel so eat that too!
- Vitamin C: Grapefruit is also full of vitamin c to build collagen for firm skin, and to protect your cells from the damage of UV rays. A lot to love there!
- STRAWBERRIES: Strawberries have so many benefits for your skin, which I detail more in my post What do Kiwi, Strawberries, Banana and Walnuts do for your skin?, but here is just some of the information on the amazing strawberry:
- Strawberries contain: Vitamin C for Collagen. Strawberries contain lots of Vitamin C, along with some copper:, both crucial for building your collagen. Collagen is the protein that gives structure and plumpness to your skin.
- Strawberries contain Fisetin to remove dead cells and make way for fresh new cells. Strawberries contain an abundance of a bioflavonoid called Fisetin. It has been known to be neuroprotective for 20 years, but it’s also good for your skin. Fisetin clears senescent cells, which are the damaged cells that we all accumulate with age. Clearing them will help to renew your skin cells, giving you brighter, younger-acting skin.
- Strawberries are a source of Anthocyanins, which are plant compounds that boost the ability of your body to retain antioxidants. This increases the antioxidant levels in your skin and makes you more resistant to DNA damage.
- KOMBUCHA: Kombucha is a fermented tea drink that contains Probiotics. Probiotics are the healthy gut bacteria that keeps your whole system healthy including your skin. Probiotics have been shown to be healing for conditions such as: acne, and allergic inflammation or in skin hypersensitivity, UV-induced skin damage, wound protection, and as a cosmetic product. The fermentation of the kombucha gives this drink a tart, fizzy taste, just right for a cocktail!
- LIME: Lime, like grapefruit, contains bioflavonoids, rutin, and vitamin C – all nutrients that support skin health.
- MAPLE SYRUP: Delicious maple syrup comes from the sap of the maple tree, and contains antioxidants for skin protection, zinc to help build collagen, and manganese. Although it is healthy in small quantities, it also contains a high amount of sugar, so best to eat it in moderation.
- MINT: contains high amount of Vitamin A, which helps to stimulate fibroblasts to build collagen and elastin in skin. Mint will also freshen your breath due to its high chlorophyll content and delicious flavor!
Lauren Bacall’s favorite cocktail also included grapefruit. She and Humphrey Bogart enjoyed entertaining and never held back on serving the best! See her Sparkling Rose and Grapefruit Wine Cocktail recipe below if you’d like to partake!

Top the remaining room left in the glass with tonic water. Take slice of grapefruit and remove the inside of the grapefruit so you only have the peel (skin).
